Yoga festivals are popping up in most major cities every few months or so and I’m here to tell you – GO! Maybe you haven’t mastered Astavakrasana pose…or maybe you have no idea what this even means…it’s okay, I had to google it. It means Eight-Angle Pose…so this brings me to another point…don’t let the technical terms fool you – most have a very simple meaning and there’s always child’s pose…when in doubt…just go there.

Okay, let me also preface, when I use the term ‘yogi’ I’m referring to what you see on Instagram – the bikini-clad Australian beauty that resembles a contortionist. What you think a ‘real yogi’ may be, is definitely not representative of the true population. Sure there are those Insta-Celebs that have millions of followers and make headstands look like a walk in the park…but I’m here to be honest with you – a Yogi is in fact anyone who does yoga. Merely, laying on the floor still for just a few moments and you have yourself a Shavasana – also known as corpse pose.

So the yoga festival trend (which might be one of my favorite hobbies) is perfect really for anyone. Most include yoga classes, meditation workshops, yoga apparel pop-ups, and yummy vendor samples. From first-time yogis to those who have practiced for decades, the demographic is always vast and diverse with one common interest – health, wellness & community. Everyone who attends a yoga festival has a genuine interest in being kind to themselves and others. Not a bad group to spend the day with. :)
A few weeks ago, Adalyn and I attended Tulafest in Seattle with several of our friends. To give you an inside scoop on what really goes on at yoga festivals, I’m going to share a little behind the scenes:
