Amazon celebrated World Book Day last week by hosting Global Free Library events in twelve countries around the world…and we had the opportunity of attending the one in Seattle!
The event included a variety of activities, treats, author readings, airbrush tattoos and my favorite – a photo booth!
Guests were encouraged to bring a few books to donate, which were then gifted to several local non-profits including Mary’s Place and The Pike Place Market Foundation. Worldwide, over 17,200 books were donated thanks to 7,400 gracious participants.
Guests were also able to bring 1 or 2 books home! My 6 year old is an avid reader so a book means the world to her – something I hope she carries on forever. I truly believe if you can read – then you can accomplish anything. Definitely the most valuable asset.
I love that Amazon Books captured their audience with hands-on activities – something that’s often overlooked in today’s technological age. Sure we can all share, pin, tweet, etc. but the ability to be present, engage with one another and show the importance of truly loving books (not apps or games) but real books, is priceless.
I’m grateful for Amazon (for so many things), but most of all – for providing an entire afternoon surrounded by books, community and imagination with my eager little readers! We definitely #LoveToRead!

Cheers!
