I partnered with Xfinity Mobile for their 7 Day Phone Cleanse and it couldn’t have come at a better time. I was struggling with productivity during and in-between travels and needed to reign in my screen time schedule (along with setting a good example for my girls!).
My goal over the course of the week (and beyond!) is to get more out of my phone and not let it be a distraction. Make it work for me…not the other way around. Our phones don’t own us…though sometimes it feels that way, especially when your profession, like mine, is digital based.
The Best 7 Day Phone Cleanse
So how does it work? Do you have to go in airplane mode for a week? Absolutely not. The Phone Cleanse offers daily prompts on how to use your phone more efficiently…not going cold turkey (because that’s not realistic, right?).
The basic cleanse outline is below, but you’ll to want to reference Xfinity Mobile for their detailed version + tips and tricks. And interesting facts like – did you know the amount of mobile content that the average person scrolls through per day is 300 feet?! Which is exactly why we need this.
- Day 1 – The App Purge
- Day 2 – Gray For A Day
- Day 3 – The 24-Hour Notification Fast
- Day 4 – The Storage War
- Day 5 – The 60-Minute Rule
- Day 6 – Sleep Separation
- Day 7 – The Minimalist Home Screen
To be honest, I have a minimalist mindset so purging apps and reorganizing my home screen came very naturally, and I turned off my notifications a year ago. With that said, I still struggle with storage overload (blogger life!), sleep separation and the constant need to check my phone purely out of obsession. I found switching my screen to grayscale (day 2) to be the most effective tool in just putting my phone down and leaving it until I really needed it.
Color perception impacts excitement and attention levels, so once you switch to gray that dopamine high is reduced (or nonexistent). Just try it for a day and see how it affects your screen addiction. I think we can all be more efficient – check out your favorite ‘grammers then get back to real life. Just for a day.
So what can you learn from the Phone Cleanse?
Notifications are NOT necessary, an app purge feels so damn good. And you can legit set our phone down for at least 60 minutes and the world will not end. And remember – this is not about ditching your phone altogether – just making it efficient.
Check out the Phone Cleanse or comment on this post if you’d like a physical copy (like mine in the photos). My friends at Xfinity Mobile would be happy to send you one – it’s fun, interactive and would be great to share with the rest of the family.
