Seattle Style has quite the spectrum – from authentic grunge reminiscent of our Nirvana days, to outdoor enthusiasts wearing sandals and Gortex. But if you’re a Seattleite, then you know there’s another category often overlooked – authentic, fashion-forward and artfully curated. Thankfully, the style blogging community is quickly growing – creating noise and making the statement we are a city with style.
As you know I’m a mom of two beautiful little girls – so today I’m sharing my version of Seattle Style – The Mom Edit.
First of all – if you’re a mom, I’m gonna bet you wear black. Besides its fantastic slimming attributes, it makes a wardrobe easy, especially if you have limited time to style your outfits. A black dress, top or pants can be paired with virtually anything – making it versatile and polished.
When attending meetings or events in Seattle, I typically always wear a dress. For one, it’s easier for me to grab and go vs. attempting to pair a top with pants (as I’m making breakfast, packing lunches, etc.) – and as a mom, I’m all for short cuts – or ‘hot mess hacks‘ as my friend Bailey calls them.
In this post I’m wearing the Gathered Silk Shirtdress from Cuyana (I talked about the brand HERE a few weeks ago). Their philosophy is to live a fuller life with less things. The idea is to refine your wardrobe to include high quality pieces that truly bring you joy. Forget that stash of clothes you never wear – donate that stuff and invest in just a few pieces that you are completely smitten with – like this dress.
Another key element to the Seattle Style Mom Edit is the handbag. Let’s be real – we always have a ton of stuff in our bag – whether we need it or not, it’s there. So when I discovered the Top Handle Bag by Cuyana I needed it…like really needed it. It has a ton of space inside and is easily one of the prettiest things I own. And I think we can all agree – there’s nothing like a handbag that makes you feel like a million bucks.
The next item on the Mom Edit is a platform heel, preferably in blush – because that color is everything this season. I like a platform because it offers a bit of comfort vs. a stiletto and allows me to run after my 4 year old if need be (moms – you get me?). On the blog you’ll mostly see me wearing Brooks Running shoes or platform heels – not much in between.
To keep the blush theme going, I’ve been wearing these Yasmine Studs from With Love, Theo on repeat. They’re the perfect spring accessory, along with these DIFF Eyewear Rose Pink Pearl sunnies (p.s. use code PORTIA to save 25% off a pair!).
And last but not least, Seattle has a phenomenal artisan community that creates truly unique products, like this necklace from Leia Beila. I’ve been sharing this Seattle-based shop for the past two years because I absolutely adore the designer and she has perfected the ultimate statement pieces – as seen in the necklace below. Shop her brand new Pure Power collection HERE (it’s amazing!)
I hope you enjoyed my version of Seattle Style – The Mom Edit and you’re feeling inspired to revamp, renew and embrace a bit of our fashion-forward Emerald City. I believe in wearing clothes that are comfortable but also make you feel really good about yourself – something we often lose sight of in motherhood.
