Running is a somewhat new Obsession for me. I actually didn’t attempt to really run until about 3 months after the birth of my second daughter in 2012. I wanted to lose weight and everyone I knew that ran consistently was in great shape. I started off with 1 mile. They always say the first mile (even when you become well-versed in running) is the hardest. Fortunately I have a great group of girls, I like to call “My Tribe,” that motivated me to pursue running and make it MUCH easier to stick to a run routine and push myself a bit further each week.
It’s hard to explain the “runner’s high” but trust me, it’s a real thing and it’s kind of amazing. That is what keeps you coming back. That extreme sense of accomplishment and overall good feeling. My Tribe and I were enjoying our runs, most of us moms, allowing ourselves that time to be independent and strong. As a collaborative, we decided to make a goal and so we signed up for the Tough Mudder (an endurance event series in which participants attempt 10–12 mile long military-style obstacle courses). By the time the Tough Mudder came around about 6 months later, we were up to about 18 miles per week (3mi/4days, 6mi/1day). I like to the think of this time as “where it all began.”
During my introduction to running, I became very aware of the “gear” that ‘real’ runners use…and I played around with a few different pieces…headbands, jackets, socks…then of course shoes. I had no idea where to start when shopping for running shoes. A lot has changed over the past few years, I have educated myself about what is actually needed to run either for recreation or training, all while going through a few different brands and styles…the hands-down winner = Brooks Running. Everyone wears Brooks. Of course the typical runner, but I’m also seeing Brooks in every fitness class – Zumba, Step, Muscle Conditioning, and then at the grocery store, at the park…camping. They are extremely popular and for good reason. They are incredibly durable and literally have a fit and style for every foot.
I had the opportunity to test out the new PureGrit 3 Trail Running Shoe and, you guessed it…I’m OBSESSED! First of all, the colors!! Bright & fun, just begging to be worn. We all know if you wear fitness attire you actually like, you are WAY more likely to actually work on your fitness. Am I right? Okay, onto the details of this awesome shoe…the PureGrit 3 is light as a feather, very deceiving to it’s ability to be a killer trail running shoe. Once you check out the sole, you will see the wow factor…hex lugs which provide traction and protection from the elements you might find along the trail…rocks, branches, etc. I chose this style since my usual run is along a trail, and I constantly worry about rolling my ankle or slipping….not a problem at all in the PureGrit 3.
The PureGrit 3 is part of the PureProject Line from Brooks, meant to “embrace the simplicity of the run with mindfully designed apparel that seamlessly fits into life — both on and off the run. Quiet details, clean lines, and smart fabrics help you dress for the journey, wherever it takes you.” (Brooksrunning.com) I had the opportunity to check out apparel from the PureProject line, as well, so stay tuned for that post very soon!
Overall Rating of the PureGrit 3: OBSESSED to the max! The tagline for Brooks is “Run Happy,” and I completely agree…this IS the only way to run…make the most of your beautiful stems and take them for a sprint!
*Brooks Running graciously provided me with the PureGrit 3 to conquer some running and review. The opinions expressed here represent my own, which I take great pride in providing pure honesty…because I’m OBSESSED with sharing the Good!
