Here’s something most of you don’t know about me…I used to be a hardcore couponer. I clipped coupons every single week…for hours. I then filed them in a binder (yes, a binder!), which was categorized to a T. To this day, it might have been the most organized I have ever been in my entire life.
I would then shop super early, when the sales started for the week, to snag the best deals (before the shelf cleared…and this totally happened in those days!). Mind you, this was when extreme couponing was a thing. And it still is for some of you. But for me, I got so completely burnt out – and really why did I need 48 toothpastes?! It was the thrill of saving money – I felt like I was really contributing to my home, especially since I was only working part-time, about to have my 2nd baby. So after several months (maybe even a year?) of scavenging newspapers/clipping/organizing, I decided to close up the binder for good.
But…I did learn heaps of grocery-saving tips AND that is where I actually became obsessed with the blogging industry. I was so into the coupon bloggers I followed, that I realized it was a passion that I could pursue all on my own…minus the coupons.
The reason I decided to share this (somewhat private) detail about my past life is to provide a tip I learned in those good ‘ol days that we still use to this day in our home that really helps reduce your grocery bill in the long run…which I like to think of as a way of saving towards our adventures! Because I would much rather enjoy a vacation with my family…than waste unnecessary dollars at the supermarket. You with me?
So about these photos…
What do you spend the most money on at the grocery store? We definitely spend our fare share on produce, but the items that tend to push the budget are protein…whether it be meat or seafood. Now for our family, I only eat seafood, whereas my husband and two daughters eat everything. So, we like to have both stocked in our fridge and/or freezer. And the best deal we’ve found is Zaycon Fresh.
Zaycon Fresh is a privately owned company based in Spokane, Washington. Their mission is to bring farm-fresh food direct to consumers at wholesale prices. They offer sales events at over 1200 locations nationwide.
So here’s how it works, you place an order on ZayconFresh.com and then choose a pick-up location. As a point of reference, when we placed our order for Turkey Roast (as seen above) there were 61 locations to choose from near my zip code!
And the Zaycon Fresh price point beats your average grocery store meat department. Here’s a few examples that are on their site right now:
- Fresh Boneless Skinless Chicken Breasts – $1.89/lb
- 93/7 Ground Beef – $3.99/lb
- Wild Argentine Red Shrimp – $7.99.lb
- Sweet Italian Sausages – $2.99/lb
The secret to the low price point is that they only sell by the case, to alleviate extra handling costs. The bonus for your family is that you will always have an option for dinner…and it sets you up for easy meal planning.
While this post may not seem like my typical content…I’m hoping you’ll consider how much you’re really paying per month on groceries…and deciding if it’s worth it? I love the idea of Zaycon Fresh and how it provides an opportunity for us to shop wiser, and travel more!
