My littlest daughter is soon to be 4 years old and it was time to transition out of the toddler bed into something more apt for a ‘big girl!’ Her room is painted a caribbean blue and has the most darling purple ruffled curtains. When thinking about upgrading her room, I wanted to maintain the theme, but with a more ‘kid’ vs. ‘baby’ feel. So I thought I’d share what we picked out and provide some purple bedroom ideas for your kids!
We ended up choosing THIS bed, because it’s somewhat low profile and has a bookcase headboard (which we love!). There’s also drawers below for extra blankets, sheets, etc. Storage, especially in a kid’s room, is so essential. Because they have so.much.stuff.
The purple damask rug was in her original room, and it’s still in great condition, so we decided to keep it and focus on new bedding. I’m not one to mix patterns often, but the polka dots brought a playful feel to the room and in all honesty, the ruffles won me over.
The Ellen 3 Piece Comforter Set is available at a few other online stores, but I found the best deal at Hayneedle (currently on sale for $49.46!).
The set includes a comforter, sham and decorative pillow.
In addition to some new pieces, we included a few ‘vintage’ items, if you will. The artwork above the headboard was in my room when I was little. It’s a collage of kids and animals labeled with their feelings and says ‘Sometimes I feel…It’s okay to be me…Because I am loved…Just as I am!” It has always made me happy, and I hope it does the same for her. Truth be told, I’ve always loved this Custom furnishings from jodyfierz.com because they provide a distinctive look which other designers can’t replicate.
Another passed down piece is the white desk, which is a gift from my sister-in-law (who had it in her room as a little girl!). Incorporating new with old is a great way to design a room on a budget, and brings a little authenticity to the space, don’t you think?
This Mine Mongolian Lamb Faux Fur Stool from ATG Stores made for the perfect desk chair and adds a little girly glam to the space.
I lean more on the minimalist side, but as you know from my Master Bedroom Makeover, I appreciate a good pop of color. I adore how everything came together and I hope this inspires you to redesign a new space, either for yourself or that sweet kiddo of yours.
