This year my oldest daughter turned 6 – which felt like a major turning point in her entire little being. Her brilliant, kind, outgoing and courageous personality has never shined brighter – she’s reading, writing, and leaving any trace of babyhood behind – she is officially a little lady. With that said, it was time to revamp her room (also known as her art studio) to reflect this newfound spirit.
We started with a new-ish bed…passed down from my sister-in-law – which made it extra-special. Going from a twin to a double has made a world of difference in her sleep – she feels like she has her own little sanctuary. If you can swing it – I highly recommend a double for the big kids!
To dress the bed we added the Belle Quilt Set by Lush Decor (via Hayneedle), a Little Sleepy Head Pillow in Pink Marble, and a Mermaid Sequin Pillow by Ankit. I’ve come to realize kid’s really notice details – so I felt their beds deserve the same love I’d give my own.
Hanging above the bed is a WONDERFUL print and magnetic frame from Letters & Co – a darling Etsy shop that specializes in unique prints and custom magnetic wooden frames (which I showed on Insta Stories a few weeks ago!). Use code PORTIA to save 25% off your purchase :)
The clock, desk, stools and bookshelves are all from Ikea (comment if you need links)! To organize Adalyn’s art supplies, I filled mini chalkboard buckets with pens, pencils, markers, paint brushes, etc. and then used a turntable to keep them easily accessible. I’ll often find Adalyn in her room early in the morning working on projects before school – I love that she has a space to be creative!
Another fun upgrade included this gorgeous Dancing Girl Rug from The Novogratz. This is my favorite piece in Adalyn’s room – I love that it’s feminine, yet fierce – much like my little girl.
It’s kid-friendly and easy to clean (100% polyester with a recycled cotton backing). p.s. It’s on sale for $129 right now!
Speaking of The Novogratz, I have some exciting news to share – You can enter to win a week-long stay at Cortney and Robert Novogratz’s home in Trancoso, Brazil (includes roundtrip airfare for two + transportation to/from airport). Head to their website HERE and sign up on the pop-up!
If you have any questions about items in this post, make sure to comment or feel free to email info@obsessedbyportia.com – I’d be happy to provide specific links or details, as needed!
Cheers to an inspiring 2017 (hopefully with a trip to Brazil – good luck!)
