Things To Do On A Phoenix Girlfriend Getaway
Hot Air Balloon Ride
A one-of-a-kind experience above Deer Valley and the Sonoran Desert, followed by a gourmet breakfast and mimosas. Flight time is about 45 minutes to an hour and they start at $179 for adults. I recommend Hot Air Expeditions and Rainbow Ryders.

Arizona Fresh Foodie Trail
Just 20 minutes from Scottsdale, is one of my favorite cities in the Greater Phoenix Region – Mesa, Arizona. Its slogan is “City Limitless” – a boundless destination surrounded by the natural Sonoran Desert beauty of Tonto National Forest and the communities of Apache Junction, and Queen Creek. It’s also home to the Arizona Fresh Foodie Trail, a farm-to-table guide that makes it easy to experience all the flavors of Mesa – from olive oil to wine, craft breweries, and peach farms.
A few of my favorite stops along the Fresh Foodie Trail:
Queen Creek Olive Mill
Arizona’s only working olive farm and mill, Queen Creek Olive Mill, is a family-owned and operated, 100-acre farm with over 7,000 olive trees that produce a true blossom-to-bottle experience. You can learn first-hand how olives are pressed into fresh extra virgin olive oil on an Olive Oil 101 tour, and you can taste their locally made olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Their Italian-inspired Eatery is incredible – with house-made sangria, seasonal bruschetta, and the most divine antipasto board. Order as much as possible and share! Open daily.

Agritopia
A really unique community amongst 11 acres of urban farmland, Agritopia, is located at the northwest corner of Higley and Ray Roads, in Gilbert, Arizona. Make sure to stop in for Breakfast wine at Garage East and cupcakes from The Coffee Shop (winner of Cupcake Wars), all located onsite at Agritopia!

Schnepf Farms
A fourth-generation working family farm that hosts seasonal events and festivals, along with an organic u-pick garden and orchard. They also offer glamping in their collection of vintage airstream trailers on the 300-acre organic peach farm.
Kayak
In addition to the Fresh Foodie Trail, Mesa has incredible natural attractions, including the Superstition Mountains, Apache Trail, Salt and Verde Rivers, Usery Mountain Regional Park, and area lakes. The REI Co-op Adventure Center offers gear rentals and guided tours, including hiking, mountain biking, rafting, stand-up paddleboarding, and kayaking. On their website, Destinations.REI.com/Arizona you can sort by location and skill level.
I recommend the beginner kayaking tour of the Lower Salt River, where you’ll be surrounded by lush green riverbanks, towering red cliffs, and WILD HORSES! It’s super chill, absolutely beautiful, and an experience you will forever remember.
Art Walk Downtown Mesa
On Downtown Mesa’s many side streets, visitors can explore a modern twist of Mesa’s history with nearly a dozen unique murals painted by up-and-coming local artists of all disciplines. Be sure to look for nearly 40 public art sculptures along Main Street, all part of the city’s permanent art collection.
Horse Back Ride
Located in North Scottsdale, Cave Creek Outfitters offers guided horseback rides, cowboy cookouts, authentic cowboy games, and old west entertainment. They’re also the only Scottsdale ranch that offers rides in both the McDowell Sonoran Preserve and the Tonto National Forest.
ATV Tour
The #1 Ranked Phoenix – Scottsdale ATV tour, Desert Wolf Tours, takes you deep into the Sonoran Desert where you will see beautiful mountain vista views and incredible dynamic terrain. The tours are 3-3.5 hours long and are $175/person.
Shopping
From high-end to outlet deals, Phoenix is a perfect destination to shop til you drop!
Here’s a quick run-down of the best shopping in Phoenix:
Scottsdale Fashion Square
For high-end shopping, Scottsdale Fashion Square is your go-to. Three stories tall and nearly two million square feet, you’ll find an iconic retailer around every corner (think Burberry, Jimmy Choo, Prada, Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Tory Burch, kate spade new york, and even Tesla.) Show your out-of-town ID at Scottsdale Fashion Square’s Concierge to receive a complimentary Visitor Savings card.
Uptown Plaza
If you love to shop local, Uptown Plaza, located on the northeast corner of Central and Camelback, is home to a handful of locally-owned boutiques and restaurants. Visit Local Nomad for one-of-a-kind gifts, Muse Apparel for on-trend clothing, and grab a bite to eat at Zookz. Prepared to shop til’ you drop? Head over to Frances Vintage and Changing Hands Bookstore just a couple blocks west on Camelback Road.
Phoenix Premium Outlets
Phoenix Premium Outlets, a destination for your bargain-hunting agenda, is an open-air shopping center, home to 90 stores, such as Saks Fifth Avenue, Michael Kors, Coach, Gap, Charlotte Russe, Nike, and more.
Bitmore Fashion Park
Biltmore Fashion Park knows you can’t shop on an empty stomach. Great local restaurants and premier brands unite here to provide an experience for the shop-o-holic and the foodie. Refresh and refuel at True Food Kitchen, Blanco Tacos + Tequila, Zinburger and Seasons 52. Need a caffeine boost? Royal Coffee Bar can help.
Kierland Commons
Catch some rays during the day beneath the shady palm trees or stroll around after dark under hanging lights at Kierland Commons. This upscale, open-air shopping mall is equipped with 70 shops and restaurants, including Anthropologie, J. Crew, Madewell, and Z. Gallerie.
Tempe Marketplace
Located just down the street from Arizona State University, Tempe Marketplace is a vibrant, outdoor shopping center. Enjoy an open-air stroll between stores including H&M, F21 Red, and specialty boutiques in the mall’s main courtyard, plus more retailers such as Target and Nordstrom Rack nearby.
Scottsdale Quarter
Located just across the street from Kierland Commons, Scottsdale Quarter is full of shops and restaurants that cater to every style and flavor.
Melrose District
The Melrose District is an up-and-coming shopping destination in the Phoenix Area, though the neighborhood has been thriving since the 1940’s. This one-mile stretch is often referred to as Phoenix’s best kept vintage secret, with stores such as Modern Manor and Retro Ranch.
Old Town Scottsdale
If you want to take home a memento with Southwestern flair, start your search in the art galleries, jewelry shops and souvenir stores of Old Town Scottsdale. From boutique clothes to bolo ties to baby saguaros in colorful pots, the cute walkable core of Old Town boasts plenty of options for gifts.
Spa
When planning a Phoenix girlfriend getaway, a spa day is almost always on the itinerary. You can find a list of destination spas, beauty services, day spas, and wellness clubs on Visit Phoenix!
Art Galleries
Recognized as one of the premier destinations for art collectors, The Galleries on Main Street in Old Town Scottsdale features work from over 1,000 artists. It’s also home to “America’s original Art Walk,” open every Thursday from 7-9 pm.
Hike
Everyone goes to Camelback Mountain, but I prefer the Phoenix Mountain Preserve which has 50 moderate trails ranging from 1 to 16.7 miles, up to 2600 feet above sea level. We did a quick sunrise loop and only passed a few hikers and a biker.
Taliesin West
Taliesin West is a National Historic Landmark nestled in the desert foothills of the McDowell Mountains in Scottsdale, Arizona. It is also the home of the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation and the School of Architecture at Taliesin. It’s open to the public year-round for a range of guided tours including Insights, Night Lights, Behind The Scenes, and Private Collections Tours, among others.
Desert Botanical Garden
Just 15 minutes out of Scottsdale, you’ll find 140 acres of garden trails, wildflowers, and blooming cacti, and the Desert Botanical Garden. Open daily from 8 AM – 5 PM. Tickets start out at $24.95 for adults and are free for kids 3 and under and active military.

Phoenix Art Museum
Located in Downtown Phoenix, about 20 minutes from Scottsdale, is the Phoenix Art Museum. The largest art museum in the Southwest. In addition to the featured exhibits, the permanent collection galleries include over 19,000 works of art from modern and contemporary, to fashion, Latin, and Western American.
In an effort to reduce economic barriers and increase access to the arts, Phoenix Art Museum offers Pay-What-You-Wish admission every Wednesday from 3 to 9 pm.

Roosevelt Row Artists’ District
Downtown Phoenix is also home to the Roosevelt Row Artists’ District, which includes dozens of art venues, murals, public art, and hundreds of local businesses that support the arts, bringing in over 100,000 visitors each year. I highly recommend an Arizona Pedal Cab Tour to learn about the area!

Heard Museum
Also located in Downtown Phoenix is the Heard Museum, a dedication to the advancement in American Indian Art, sharing stories from a first-person perspective. The museum offers free general admission each first Friday of the month from 6 to 10 p.m. except in March (specially ticketed exhibitions/events are extra).

Grand Canyon
I’d be remiss not to mention Grand Canyon during your visit to Phoenix. It’s about a 4-hour drive and one of those bucket list experiences that you just need to see to believe. If you have the time, make a day of it.
For more Things to Do in Phoenix, check out Visit Phoenix! They also share a weekly event schedule that you can filter by weekend, week, month, season, and venue!
Best Restaurants in Phoenix
The restaurant scene in Phoenix has a menu and ambiance for every flavor. Southwest or Italian, tapas or elevated, there’s a vibe for whatever you crave.
A few of my favorite Phoenix restaurants are listed below:
Coffee & Tea
Press Coffee
Press Coffee is a Phoenix favorite with locations in Scottsdale, Chandler, Tempe, and Downtown Phoenix serving drinks made from fair-trade, small-batch beans, plus beer & wine. I recommend the cold-brew made with single-origin Brazil Mogiano.
Teaspressa
Voted the best tea in Arizona, Teaspressa takes coffee-inspired tea to another level. A flower-filled shop with rotating blooms and rose-petal-decorated drinks. It feels like a midsummer night’s dream the moment you walk in. Add a watermelon radish and avocado toast to round out the experience.
Breakfast & Brunch
Hash Kitchen
Hash Kitchen is a creative a.m. eatery that boasts a social dining experience with a live DJ, bloody mary bar, mimosa flights, and playful dishes like Lucky Charm Waffles and Cannoli Donuts. If you want to brunch HARD on your next girlfriend getaway, Hash Kitchen is the place!
True Food Kitchen
They have locations all over the US, but one of my favorites is in the center court of Scottsdale Quarter. True Food Kitchen believes in delicious dining and conscious nutrition which is apparent on their menu and once you take that first bite. Offering seasonal ingredients with variations for vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free, it is one of those few places that just gets it. They know how to prepare really impressive healthy food. I recommend cauliflower polenta or banana pancakes. And an el Verde Juby True organic cold-pressed juice.
Prep & Pastry
Using only locally sourced ingredients, Prep & Pastry serves up a killer brunch with a gram-worthy aesthetic for the perfect Phoenix Girlfriend Getaway.
The Henry
Follow the arrow to the greatest neighborhood restaurant, a place where you can always count on a warm welcome from baristas, servers, and bartenders who know your order by heart. A fusion of industrial and classical influences, our open dining spaces are bursting with charm and energy. Come and go with ease for your morning coffee, enjoy lunch with a colleague, gather the family together for dinner, or treat yourself to a post-work drink at the bar. For craveable eats and downright delicious cocktails, look no further than a place where you’ll always be among friends, a place that feels like home: The Henry.
Original ChopShop
I was recently introduced to the Original ChopShop by my friend The Blonde Giraffe, a Phoenix transplant who also has an affinity for clean ‘feel-good’ food. They have several locations in Arizona, including North Scottsdale, and just launched delivery. Also, you can filter their menu online by the dietary specification. I’d recommend something, but honestly, it’s all amazing.
Luci’s at The Orchard
Luci’s offers a unique marketplace, cafe, coffee and juice bar, and vintage ice cream shop in a casual and welcoming environment. Whether you’re in the mood for avocado toast, chilaquiles, or flapjacks (gluten-free available!), their all-day breakfast is one not to be missed! Also, there might be a line on the weekends (which is proof of their goodness). But they move fast – so totally worth it!
And definitely save room for their famous Unicorn Shake at Splurge…you’ll want to snap a pic before it melts!
Farm & Craft
Farm & Craft is focused on healthy and sustainable food in a community-style atmosphere. Think modern farm with a contemporary twist. F&C boasts a seasonal “Wellness-Menu” featuring four paths to optimal health, including an ‘Anti-inflammatory diet’, ‘Increasing probiotic levels’, ‘Maintaining a high level of anti-oxidants and ‘Reducing your overall stress. This is accomplished by providing sustainable, gluten-free, organic, and hormone-free ingredients.
Lunch & Dinner
Diego Pops
Quite possibly the most photographed restaurant in Old Town Scottsdale, Diego Pops is known for its tacos, tequila, and treats with a neon pastel aesthetic. If you go, make sure to order the brussels sprouts nachos, snow cone margarita, and campfire sundae. And snap a pic for Instagram – they love to regram! Diego Pops offers happy hour 7 days a week from 3-6 pm and $3 tacos every Monday.
The Churchill
Back in Downtown Phoenix, a quick 20-minute drive from Scottsdale, you’ll find my favorite spot to eat, drink and hang out, The Churchill. Made up of ten small local businesses in a collaborative 9,000 square foot courtyard. You’ll find some of the best food in the city from restaurants like Freak Brothers Pizza, Foxy Fruit, and Pobrecito Cocktails. With plenty of seating, lawn games, and good company, it makes for the ideal afternoon.
The Larder & The Delta
Part of a new movement; a community of chefs who work collaboratively and share collectively; a menu that’s designed to illustrate the diversity through local Arizona produce with dishes that highlight how one ingredient can be presented in various ways. Taking the unfamiliar and making it enjoyable, most importantly evolving the rustic and making it new.
Postino Wine Cafe
Known for their colorful bruschetta and high-quality approachable wines, you can find Postino in several locations all over Phoenix. Including Kierland Commons in North Scottsdale. My personal favorite is the bounty board charcuterie with a side of smoked salmon. But I know the prosciutto and brie panini is also super popular.
Note: they also offer gluten free bread.
Jalapeno Bucks
The search for Buckin’ Good BBQ and burritos ends as you walk up to Jalapeno Bucks situated between citrus groves. Join Mesa locals in line for a hearty meal of Arizona-style BuzzSaw Brand BBQ and New Wave Mexican Soul Food to enjoy on their covered patio. Food & Wine Magazine ranked them as the best BBQ in Arizona in their 2020 Best Barbecue in Every State issue.
Gertrude’s Restaurant
Located inside the Desert Botanical Garden, Gertrude’s offers a farm and pasture to plate experience. I recommend a dinner reservation followed by the Electric Desert exhibit in the garden which runs October through May after dark.

Zuzu
Located in Hotel Valley Ho, Zuzu is an American fare kitchen with crafty cocktails and an unforgettable menu. Do it for the gram: The “Show Stopper” Shake (oversized milkshake, baked goods + whipped cream *ask your server for this month’s flavor)
Mowry & Cotton
Experience the bold, simple, flame-cured flavors of Modern American cuisine in a lively, approachable setting, as presented by Chef Tandy Peterson. A signature hearth oven stands as the central focal point of the restaurant, featuring breakfast, lunch, dinner and Sunday brunch offerings designed to be shared around a table of friendly conversation. Before dinner, claim a spot at the spirited bar, or lounge on the expansive back porch while discovering an engaging beer and cocktail menu.
The Sicilian Butcher
The Sicilian Butcher is centered upon a build-your-own meal experience with gourmet meatballs and Italian-cured meats for charcuterie boards. Using family recipes, The Sicilian Butcher introduces 15 craft meatball varieties including dry-aged steak, lamb, ahi tuna, lump crab, and Tomaso’s Sicilian version made with ground veal, prime beef, pork, pine nuts, raisins, and pecorino cheese, and meatless/vegetarian choices such as lentil and eggplant parmigiana. If you’re with a group of girlfriends, definitely order the Sicilian In Strada, their famous 5 Foot Long Charcuterie Board, and their Sicilian Desert Board.
Hearth ’61
Ingredient-driven cuisine made with time-honored flavor pairings and cooking styles rich in tradition. Enjoy seasonal fare cooked in their signature oven from renowned Chef Charles Wiley, craft cocktails, local brews, and an extensive wine selection in the open restaurant with a stunning exhibition kitchen. The bar features morning coffee and evening cocktails, while the sunken space in The Living Room is ideal for casual gatherings. The spacious patio is the perfect place for an afternoon drink, with stunning views of the pool and Camelback Mountain.

They fresh squeeze all citrus juice in-house daily and create dozens of syrups, infusions, tinctures, foams, flawless ice, and garnishes using modern techniques and technology. When possible, Little Rituals take advantage of seasonal produce and flavors and incorporate them into both their cocktails and food menus.
From the Rooftop
Perched high atop Cambria Hotel Downtown Phoenix, From the Rooftop is where good times happen. This open-air space invites diners to soak in the stunning surroundings while enjoying inventive cocktails and taking part in their ever-changing events. Local artists worked together to create three five-story decal murals on the exterior of the hotel. Inside of the hotel’s ground-floor restaurant is a floral mural by Nyla Lee spread among the north wall. Austin Sanchez created a mural of blue faces that greet people getting off the elevator on their way up to From the Rooftop. After arriving at the bar, guests will be met with a colorful, abstract mural by Ashley Macias. Pops of color, geometric shapes, and hints of the natural world fill the interior and exterior of the Cambria hotel. Whether visitors are local or looking for a local favorite, pay a visit to this Roosevelt Row staple. Kick-back with a drink in hand, get brunch with a backdrop on weekends, and relax in an outdoor setting with plenty of room to distance.
jade bar at Sanctuary on Camelback
The contemporary and chic, jade bar boasts an elite atmosphere where guests can enjoy savory libations and irresistible culinary creations. Take a sip amidst a shaded patio featuring an alluring gas fireplace for those chilly Arizona desert evenings. Jade bar is known for its exceptional mixology and authentic backlit jade onyx drink rail.
