I am always striving to live a more Organic life – food, bath products, cleaning supplies – there are so many ways we can reduce our carbon footprint and create a healthier environment for our families and future generations. Organic clothing is a sector many of us fail to think about when trying to live more ‘green.’ I have to admit I don’t have a plethora of carbon-free attire, so when I discovered ONNO Organic T-Shirts I was excited to try the brand, learn more about their mission and support their efforts to create a Greener America.
…Plus they are super comfy and easily styled :)
All ONNO T-Shirts are made from sustainable fibers: bamboo, hemp and organic cotton. In addition to being a member of the Organic Trade Association and Green America, ONNO is a Carbon Free Partner.
I had the opportunity to try the ONNO Bamboo T-Shirt in Heather Gray (pictured above & below) and I LOVE it!
For my daughter’s 5th birthday (in addition to her Yoga & Donuts party), we also had a celebration at our beach house. The ONNO t-shirt was perfect paired with jeans and a chunky necklace. I was comfortable all day and felt good looking back on pics (which is usually the true verdict) :)
I’ve worn the ONNO Bamboo T-Shirt several times over the past month – easily dressed up or down and has washed perfectly. I hang dry about 90% of my wardrobe and it hasn’t changed form or lost quality at all.
“70% viscose from organic bamboo, 30% organic cotton. Great fit. Softer than your softest cotton shirt…Made from the fastest growing plant on earth.” ONNOtshirts.com
I also had the opportunity to try the ONNO Hemp T-Shirt in White. I know you’re thinking, white? Yes, this color can be tricky but it’s just the right thickness that it’s not see-through and, just like the Bamboo T-Shirt, fits great.
“55% hemp, 45% organic cotton. Trust us: this shirt is soft, and it will get softer with continued washing. Great fit. Blocks UV rays, wicks moisture, and is antimicrobial.” ONNOtshirts.com
I love that the two ONNO T-Shirts I received were very different in fit and texture, so it didn’t feel like I was getting duplicate shirts. They have a variety of colors and also carry Men’s styles, which is perfect for my T-Shirt-Obsessed husband.
*Sizing – I had an XS in both styles which fit perfect.
*Price – Men & Women’s T-Shirts are $29 + Free Shipping in US.
So you might still be wondering, but why should I buy Organic T-Shirts?
“…growing conventional cotton is particularly rough on the environment. Cotton is the largest crop behind corn in the United States and consumes 10% of the world’s pesticides (that’s two billion pounds) and 25% of the world’s insecticides (we don’t know what that weighs but it’s a lot). Cotton growers typically use many hazardous chemicals including aldicarb, phorate, methamidophos and endosulfan. There are at least 20 types of organophosphate and carbamate pesticides, many of which were originally developed as toxic nerve agents during World War II. These chemicals harm people, wildlife and the environment. In addition, conventional cotton requires a tremendous amount of water to grow: 106,000 cubic feet of water per acre. That’s a lot of water….
“…Organic cotton is usually rain-fed, not irrigated, so it uses a lot less water. Organic cotton, as you probably know, is grown without the use of pesticides and insecticides. How is this done? Farmers use composted manures and cover-crops to replace synthetic fertilizers. Innovative weeding strategies are used instead of herbicides. Beneficial insects and trap-crops are used to control pests. Nature’s frost and water inducement prepare plants for harvest, instead of using toxic defoliants. We like organic cotton.” – ONNOtshirts.com
