I have loved American Girl for over 30 years…it all began with Samantha, Kirsten and Molly. If you were a child of the 80’s and had the privilege of having one of these dolls, then you can remember how special they were. They came with their own story, their own history, and a beautiful wardrobe that felt both realistic and idyllic. I grew up with Molly McIntire, an American Girl representing life in the World War II era. I honestly believe her books contributed to my love for history, seeking adventure, and the earning to read…all the time. Thankfully, my mom saved Molly after all of these years (along with her dozens of outfits), and I was able to gift her to my daughters. And at that moment, I couldn’t help but feel an overwhelming sense of nostalgia – a pivotal piece of my childhood was now integrated into theirs – how often can we say that? So after this slightly long intro, I’m happy to introduce the new American Girl we’ve welcome into our family – Tenney Grant. Her story reminds me of why I truly love the American Girl brand, and if you’re anything like me, you’ll soon see why…
Tenney Grant is an aspiring musician finding her way to success in Nashville, Tennessee. Her books talk about pursuing your passion, being courageous and sharing your authentic self – an important philosophy every little girl should know.
I also love the emphasis on creative discovery, especially in today’s society, I want my daughter’s to know there are so many ways to find success and happiness in life. And the value of doing something you truly love (like playing music) is something to be encouraged.
As I mentioned, the wardrobe was one of my favorite additions to my American Girl collection. And Tenney Grant’s sweet country soul has the most darling style, my girl’s were smitten right away! For the photo above I also added a ‘vintage’ satchel from Molly’s collection (dating back a few decades!). I love how timeless American Girl feels and how, even as an adult, it evokes a fond memory – way beyond the idea of it just being a doll.
Another exciting announcement in the American Girl world, is the introduction of Logan, their very first boy doll. In his story, he’s actually a bandmate to Tenney! I love how the brand keeps evolving, yet has maintained their core philosophy of connecting and inspiring girls.
