We discovered Mila’s struggle with vision at the age of one (though looking back on photos it was evident way before that). I definitely had a case of ‘mom goggles’ and didn’t notice when her eyes started to cross. A friend actually pointed it out and both my husband and I, even then, barely saw it. We just thought she was so perfect and beautiful that we missed the cues. Well it turns out she had some pretty major vision impairments and thanks to Seattle Children’s Hospital we finally had a course of action shortly after her first birthday. Since then, we’ve gone through a variety of eyeglasses as her size and prescription have changed. I feel like over the past four years we’ve figured out the best styles for her and how to shop while retaining her attention, excitement and cooperation.
This year is a big milestone as she enters Kindergarten in the fall. She was due for a new pair of eyeglasses so we visited our local JCPenney Optical in the hopes that they offered a kids and mens glasses collection . Something we’ve learned along the way is that most optical centers have very limited styles for ages 0-10. This was not the case for JCPenney Optical – in fact, it took her over an hour to narrow down the choices. The pink vs. purple frame gets her every time. It makes my heart happy that she has so many choices!
JCPenney Optical is offering an exclusive promotion of $39.99 for Back To School Glasses including frames, impact-resistant lenses and an eyewear protection plan. You can choose from a variety of designer brands:
-
- Converse
- Ray Ban
- Nicole by Nicole Miller
- Puma
- DKNY
- Liz Claiborne
- Callaway
If you prefer to shop online they also offer a virtual try on tool to get a good idea of the style and make it fun for your kids.
I also recommend when shopping for eyeglasses to get the other siblings on board. Adalyn is the best cheerleader when it comes to Mila and always helps the shopping process by getting into it and trying on frames, as well. Sometimes it takes a village and to help Mila avoid feeling different.
Stop by JCPenney Optical to take advantage of their back to school promotion – coming from experience, it’s nice to have two pairs on hand! *Offers and selections not valid at Nationwide Vision inside JCPenney stores.
