One of our recent day trips led us to the charming maritime community of Port Townsend. Beautiful streets lined with restaurants, galleries and boutiques make it a hidden gem on the Olympic Peninsula, worth the quick ferry ride. One of our highlights was shopping at Emily’s Armoire, tucked away on the second floor of a victorian-inspired building, it is anything but your small town typical – carrying a contemporary clothing collection along with beautiful lingerie and accessories.
Emily is actually the one who invited us to Port Townsend – as she knows I love a good adventure (& shopping), she encouraged I make a day trip with my girls (pictured above are my daughters, my sisters and my sweet baby niece).
Located on the northeast tip of the Washington Olympic Peninsula, Port Townsend offers a perfect getaway for the day (or weekend), especially since it’s just a short two hour drive from Seattle (including an authentic PNW ferry ride).
For this post, I’ll be sharing my favorite things to do in Port Townsend…but first, because this day wouldn’t have been possible without Emily – here are two items I picked up from her shop that I am loving…

So obviously you need to visit Port Townsend specifically to stop in at Emily’s Armoire, and support her vision of changing the way we shop in small towns. But also for the reasons below (think of them as a bonus)…
Food
Whether you’re looking for authentic coastal cuisine, farm-to-table or a burger and shake – there are plenty of yummy eats in Port Townsend! My picks:
Nifty Fifty’s Soda Fountain: Perfect for every guy and doll – this 50’s themed restaurant serves up the classics like burgers, fish and chips, sodas and specialty sundaes. Sit in a booth next to the jukebox or on the patio for a waterfront view.
Better Living Through Coffee: If you’re craving a really good cup of coffee or a fresh salad, you’ll find the best fair-trade, organic and locally produced ingredients in this waterfront cafe.
Parks
Port Townsend has some of the best public parks in Washington State, providing perfect access to saltwater beaches, picnic areas and views of the Olympic and Cascade mountain ranges and the Strait of Juan de Fuca.
Festivals
Nearly every month Port Townsend offers a variety of events and festivals geared towards their creative community of artisans, musicians, and seafaring aficionados. You can find the full 2017 event calendar HERE!
When you’re planning your trip to Port Townsend, you can find the ferry schedules and driving directions HERE. Pro Tip – If you live in the North-end (Snohomish, Whatcom County), I recommend returning on the Clinton Ferry and make a reservation ahead of time to guarantee your spot on the boat. The ferry lines can get a bit lengthy on the weekend, so plan ahead as much as possible and travel off-peak times when you can!
