This is our final post in the Whistler series and I must say it’s a favorite. ♥ My husband and I tried something new (without the kids!) and have added this to our *do more often* list. Hope you enjoy!
#1 piece of advice for parents traveling with kids – if you have an opportunity to take a date night – do it. We were recommended to Whistler Babysitting by the Hilton concierge (actually they set everything up for us). It’s a trusted service that will have a sitter come to your hotel room and watch your kids, for a great rate. We were supremely satisfied – as were the kids, spending the evening playing games!
So what did we do with our free time? Eat…of course! :)
Earl’s Kitchen + Bar
We kicked off our adults-only party with dinner at Earl’s Kitchen + Bar in Whistler Village. Everything was on point – the food, the drinks, the service. I will say, there were kids in the restaurant so families are more than welcome – but honestly, one full meal sans toddlers was kind of pure bliss. We really felt spoiled here. And we loved every minute of it. Starting with the drinks…
I had the Marilyn Monroe (smirnoff vodka, passion fruit, vanilla and prosecco) & and the husband opted for an Old Fashioned (maker’s mark bourbon, demerara sugar and rootbear bitters). And yes they were amazing.
Moving onto the main course, I had the Warm Kale Salad (+ added tofu). Oh my gosh – this was heaven. If you appreciate vegetarian fare – order this dish. And if you are like my husband (more of a carnivore), then get the steak – because he nearly licked the plate clean. He’s hard to please in this arena and he was beyond impressed.
If you’re a parent, you know mealtime with kids is rough – especially in a restaurant. So…do yourself a favor on your next vacation, if possible, make time for at least one date night. You’re on vacation, too – and you deserve a dinner like this – one you can really enjoy. #SorryNotSorry
Basalt Wine & Salumeria
Since it was a Wednesday evening (during non-peak season), the Village was quiet. We strolled around and ended up at Basalt Wine & Salumeria. Known for their exquisite artisanal fare, we continued our culinary venture and tried the Cheese Plate. The presentation alone was delectable. And the cheese hashtag (#obsessed)!
The platter included sage-infused aged cheddar, Guinness-infused aged cheddar, duck salami, prosciutto, fresh fruit and breadsticks. The flavors were on another level – so incredibly good. Paired with a glass of cava and you have aprés magic.
Oh and did I mention we sat on the patio, next to a fire, overlooking the slopes? Again – another experience best suited for date night. ♥
We ventured into a few other bars and restaurants before the clock struck midnight – but these were our favorite and will definitely be included in our date night next visit.
I’d love to hear your thoughts – if you’re a parent, have you utilized babysitting services at a resort? What was your experience? By the way, when we returned to the room our girl’s were snuggled in bed asleep and spent the remainder of the trip asking for the sitter again. :) #GoodToKnow
