Just an hour and a half north of Seattle, you’ll find the community of Camano Island, filled with parks, beaches, beautiful galleries and the warmest of people. One of their notable annual events includes the Camano Island Studio Tour which took place last weekend. I had the opportunity of visiting the tour and bringing my girls along! I’m excited to share they are having an Encore Weekend this upcoming Saturday and Sunday (May 20th & 21st), so today I’ll give you a peak into the exhibits and how we made the most of our time on the beautiful Island of Camano.
This was the 19th Annual Camano Island Studio Tour which included 41 juried artists presenting their artwork at 27 studios and 2 fine art galleries. Many of the studios were out of the artist’s homes – which was a brilliant way to get a glimpse into what inspires them.
Since the studios cover the entire island, there are several tour information centers that provide a guide book or you can download their travel map from CamanoStudioTour.com.
Something I did not anticipate was the span of artistic expressions – the tour includes ceramics, glass, jewelry, painting, photography, sculpture and textiles. There really is something for everyone, all ages and all interests.
A few more reasons to visit the Camano Island Studio Tour – it’s free, allows you to go at your own pace and is always near a beach…where you can stop for a picnic!
On our way to Camano Island, we stopped at Haggen in Stanwood to pick up a few yummy treats for lunch…and flowers (because it was Mother’s Day and this momma deserved them!).
One of our favorite places on the planet is Utsalady Bay where you’ll find a small county park and boat launch (with the best views of the Puget Sound). We’re regulars here. :)
For our picnic table and cloth, I used the beach bulkhead and my Gypsy 05 Roundie from the Spring FabFitFun box (use code PORTIA to save $10).
For lunch I served watermelon, a baguette and a variety of beet, quinoa and roasted veggie salads from Haggen. I brought along a few festive napkins, straws and a platter to make it fancy for the girls…
That evening my husband (and George our pup!) joined us to watch the sunset – something Camano Island is known for (check out #camanoisland on Instagram and you’ll see why!).
Thank you, Camano Island…until we meet again!
