Registration done and hotel booked, I am fully committed to the Bellingham Bay Half Marathon on September 27th – which will make this Half Marathon #2 (thankfully I survived the Seattle Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon this past June). To sweeten the deal I have been training in some new kicks by Brooks Running – the Pureflow 4.
I even took them along on a few weekend adventures…
So obviously they’ve thoroughly enjoyed their summer…and now are ready to get down to business for the half marathon.
Since the course is mostly road, I decided to switch from my PureGrit (which I still love for trails) and try out the PureFlow 4 to see if my time improves. This Brook’s style is ultralight (only 7oz!), super flexible and was just updated with a BioMoGo DNA midsole which allows for custom comfort (this is a big deal). The Pureflow 4 also has a new rounded heel which improves alignment and encourages smoother strides. We could all use this, right?
The Bellingham Bay Half Marathon is 33 days away and I’m going to be honest, I have not been pushing my mileage as I had hoped. I have been improving my time, however, which is encouraging. I know every runner has their own philosophy, and mine includes the goal that I must complete at least one 13.2 mile run before race day…just to be sure I can make it. I know I can…I just like to have the confidence beforehand. So with that said, my longest run since my last half has only been 7 miles (yikes!). This week I plan to go further…I need to go further. Summer fun + crazy hot days have kept me from prioritizing 2+ hour runs. Thankfully Fall is just around the corner and I’m ready to buckle down (I’ve mentioned before I can be a slight procrastinator).
If you follow me on Instagram or Facebook you might recognize my candids from a few sweltering runs…

{Well the Half Marathon isn’t going to run itself! Guess I should run today…despite it being 82 Degrees #BellinghamBay}
Despite the crazy PNW heat, fortunately, the Pureflow 4 has made my training easier, with a smoother ride and (knock on wood…no injuries). I’m looking forward to them working their magic on race day!
The Bellingham Bay Half Marathon is going to be an incredible race, especially since I will be joined by my two awesome brother-in-laws! I use the term ‘joined’ loosely, as they are like 7 min/mile runners…and I am not. But at least we get to share the pre-race excitement AND celebrate our victories post-race with the whole family in the beer garden (kind of the best part).
AND I’m super excited to announce a PROMO CODE for the Bellingham Bay Half Marathon (so we can all be in it together)!!
