Finally sharing the most requested content from our Phoenix trip – the delicious, Instagram-worthy spots serving up the prettiest cocktails paired with farm to table perfection.
Let’s get into it!
ZuZu at Hotel Valley Ho
Located in the heart of Scottsdale, Hotel Valley Ho is one of the famed ‘Hollywood hideaways’ to Bing Crosby, Tony Curtis, Janet Leigh and Zsa Zsa Gabor, among others. Reinvented in 2005 it remains ‘historically hip’. Also, they have added upgrades like ZuZu, an American fare kitchen with crafty cocktails and an unforgettable menu.
What to order:
Small Plates
- Maine Lobster Rolls (parker house buns, tarragon, celery, kewpie mayo, mini potato chips + butter)
- Baked Brie (ink pepper + elderflower caramel, chives, marcona almonds + grilled MJ bread)
- Organic Maktook Dates (chorizo stuffed, bacon wrapped, with grilled radicchio, blue cheese fondue + toasted walnuts)
- Roasted Pumpkin Risotto (parmesan cheese, pepitas + fried sage)
- Brussels Sprouts + Kale Caesar Salad (parmesan crisps, sourdough croutons + capers)
Entree
- Scottish Salmon (fennel + orange salad, roasted baby carrots, parsley pine nut pistou + herbed carrot puree)
- 14oz Prime Rib (black pepper marinade, broccolini, pickled kohlrabi, grilled herb chimichurri + fried onion strings)
Dessert
- The “Show Stopper” Shake (oversized milkshake, baked goods + whipped cream *ask your server for this month’s flavor)
Drinks
- Fizzy Lifting Drink (aperol, club soda, prosecco, campari-infused blood orange foam + carbonated blackberry)
- Sundance Margarita (high west silver, cointreau, agave sour + orange juice)
Press Coffee
With over 9 (soon to be 10) locations in the greater Phoenix area, Press Coffee is one of the most well-known, and well-loved, small batch coffee roasters around. Their cafes provide a warm, inviting space for locals and visitors alike to relax, connect and work. They also offer seed to cup workshops to learn more about that perfect brew.
And let’s not forget that latte art – perfectly illustrated on their Instagram.
The Churchill
In the Roosevelt Row Art District in Downtown Phoenix you’ll find a 9,000 square foot courtyard surrounded by ten small local businesses working together in a collaborative community to feed, inspire and create.
The space will be activated with curated speakers, art classes, fitness classes, sports viewing and pop up artist galleries.
We host weekly service outings where all are welcome, continuous non-profit fundraisers and each of our tenants complete at least 4 hours of community service each month.
Did I mention it’s built out of old shipping containers? Sustainability in practice.
Included in the community are a variety of restaurants offering some of the best food in the city.
Foxy Fruit Acai Bowls & Smoothies
A positive force in the Phoenix community by serving healing food & edible art through acai bowls & smoothies. You can eat happy knowing our ingredients are organic, vegan, gluten-free, & local whenever possible.
The Pobrecito
Barter & Shake presents Pobrecito Cocktail Bar where you can enjoy tropical vibes with agave and cane spirits, as well as some frozen drinks!
Provecho
A “true” Central Mexican food experience, Provecho will be bringing many of the popular Jalisco and Michoacán foods to the Downtown Phoenix market.
(Not pictured – Fish Tacos and Horchata which we consumed too quickly – so good!)
Luci’s at The Orchard
Another community-based concept, Luci’s offers a unique marketplace, cafe, coffee and juice bar, and vintage ice cream shop in a casual and welcoming environment. Whether you’re in the mood for avocado toast, chilaquiles or flapjacks (gluten free available!), their all day breakfast is one not to be missed! Also, there might be a line on the weekends (which is proof to their goodness). But they move fast – so totally worth it!
And definitely save room for their famous Unicorn Shake at Splurge…you’ll want to snap a pic before it melts!
The Bees Knees at The Camby
Steps from Cambelback Mountain in the exclusive Bitmore neighborhood, you’ll find The Camby – an Autograph Collection boutique hotel with four eclectic restaurants – one being The Bees Knees where you’ll find the famous ‘Tipsy Tea Party’ – a must on your Phoenix itinerary.
A modern twist on tea time where The Camby throws out the rules of traditional high-tea and gives guests a refreshing respite from the Arizona sun.
Served alongside afternoon bites, the libations feature playful takes on classic teas such as English Breakfast, Earl Grey, and Chamomile, each infused with a spirit or sparkling wine.
The bites menu puts a twist on tea time favorites such as lady finger sandwiches with herb ricotta & prosciutto, fried green tomatoes, deviled eggs, and mango avocado crab salad sliders to round out The Camby experience.
Also, give yourself plenty of time for this experience – at least 2 hours! It’s something not to be rushed.
The Farm at South Mountain
Our final meal of the trip was at The Farm at South Mountain, perfectly highlighting the farm to table movement embraced by the Phoenix region.
The Farm Kitchen is the original restaurant at The Farm property. With their walk-up counter, you can choose from an assortment of delicious sandwiches, fresh soups, seasonal salads and made-from-scratch baked goods. Pick your items to put in your picnic basket and explore our Pecan Grove to find the perfect spot. Then, sit at our picnic tables and relax under the shady pecan trees. Enjoy the scenery alone or bring a group to celebrate an occasion. Don’t forget to ask about a variety of lawn games available at The Farm Kitchen pick-up window for customers to enjoy!
Kid and dog friendly!
The gorgeous property is a photographer’s dream so if you’re looking for a rustic romantic backdrop, make time for a quick shoot.
The greater Phoenix region is a mecca for really amazing fresh food, creative aesthetics and a collaborative community. I hope this post inspires you to plan a trip to indulge and enjoy all that is Arizona.
