As you know from my recent Indi Chocolate post, Mila just celebrated her 5th birthday. So in theme with this special year which brings a sea of new voyages, I wanted to share 5 travel books for kids that will inspire their curiosity and celebrate the beauty of adventure, both near and far.
But first…about these photos. If you follow along on Instagram, then you know we just returned from Whitefish, Montana and had the pleasure of taking the Amtrak train out of King Street Station in Seattle, WA. It was such a magical experience that we decided to return to the station for photos…it felt pretty fitting for my little wanderlust babe to dance around and kick off her new year of 5 in a place that represents one of the original forms of travel…since 1906.
Her little spirit is inquisitive, imaginative and incredibly vibrant, which allows us to see a new perspective when we travel. Kids are pretty fantastic at opening your eyes to new (and old!) experiences.
So, as promised, here are 5 travel books for kids to keep them globally-inspired (of course, all of them are #MilaApproved):
- Adventures Around The Globe (Lonely Planet):
Come and explore some of the most amazing places across the world! Discover each of the continents with fun facts, maps, sticker scenes and puzzles.
Explore the ruins of Machu Picchu, the canals of Venice and the bright lights of New York. Decorate real-life locations, like the sacred river Ganges in India or the mosaics of Park Guell in Spain. With over 250 stickers, your globe-trotting adventure is about to begin! Enjoys hours of fun games, maps and puzzles. Plus each book in the series has it’s very own push-out surprise to make and collect.
Suitable for children ages 3-5.
- A Day At The Airport (Richard Scarry):
Join Richard Scarry’s beloved characters Huckle Cat, Sally, and Lowly Worm for a day of adventure and discovery at the airport. Airplane fans will get an up-close look at the terminal, the control tower, the runway, and more! Featuring over 70 labeled words and a sticker sheet! Have hours of fun with this busy adventure from the one and only Richard Scarry!
- Maps (
This book of maps is a visual feast for readers of all ages, with lavishly drawn illustrations from the incomparable Mizielinskis. It features not only borders, cities, rivers, and peaks, but also places of historical and cultural interest, eminent personalities, iconic animals and plants, cultural events, and many more fascinating facts associated with every region of our planet.
- National Geographic Little Kids First Big Book of The World (National Geographic):
This charming reference introduces young readers to the wider world by exploring languages, landscapes, weather, animals, capital cities, mountains, deserts, and other landscapes and landforms, and more. It encourages kids to get play with activities such as creating a mini-rainforest in a bottle and singing a simple song in Spanish. More than 100 colorful photos are paired with kid-friendly and age-appropriate maps along with basic facts about each continent. This book will quickly become a favorite at storytime, bedtime, or any other time.
- The Kids Guide Series (Eileen Ogintz):
The Kids Guides are pocket-sized books for kids ages 6-12 and chock full of tips from kids in the know on where to go, where to eat, what to see and where to get the best souvenirs. Fun facts, games and quizzes offer entertainment for the whole family – whether exploring a new city while on vacation or having an adventure in their own backyard.
I hope you find this list helpful in passing down the gift of a traveling heart.
