What does ‘going out’ in your 30’s really look like?
First of all, let’s get one thing straight…going out past the age of 30 involves work. You need a plan…several group text messages and most likely a few phone calls (yeah…they still exist).
The days of a last minute ‘wanna grab a drink?’ are gone…you have a full calendar…always. And the only way to get that ‘night out’ in is to work for it – make it happen. And rally your tribe to join you.
My closest girlfriends are moms and we crave that ‘girl time’ – we are talking about serious soul food here. And a glass of wine over dinner just doesn’t always cut it – so we try to escape for an overnight retreat when possible (which is at least a few times a year). The easiest way to get that quick respite from the day-to-day is a staycation in the city. We had the opportunity of staying at Motif Seattle last weekend, so I thought I would share the difference between going out in your 30’s vs. 20’s and hopefully inspire you to make a date with your squad.

A ‘girl’s night out’ in your 30’s does not start at 11pm…it begins with dinner, drinks & conversation.
We checked in at 3pm – because we were not about to miss one minute of that golden kid-free time.
Motif Seattle, a Destination Hotel, is a distinctly different yet uniquely Seattle hotel experience, highlighted by vibrant service and inviting spaces that are individually crafted. Inspired by four pillars: music, art/design, culinary, and fashion, Motif Seattle weaves the culture of Seattle throughout the brand and touchpoint. – Motif Seatle
My 30’s have brought a sincere appreciation for experiences. When I have an opportunity to escape, even for just one night, I value the little luxuries – the comfort, the amenities, the details.

When the tribe finally gets a night out – we like to really enjoy ourselves.
So pour the champagne and let’s talk, laugh and revel in all that is good in our lives. #ThisIs30
An important rule for your girls night – get pampered.
Treat yo’ self. This is the time to indulge – to dust off and refresh. We headed to Julep (next door to Motif) for Manicures + a Stella Artois (they offer complimentary tea + water and drinks for purchase)…
…and a bit of shopping.
Another important rule for girls night – soak up every moment together.
Create downtime and savor those minutes with your tribe – these are the women that keep you sane, they understand you, they relate – they are your breath of fresh air.
And, take photos! Not just for Snapchat or Instagram – but photos that will be framed for years to come. These are the days we want to remember – cherish them.
To treat my girlfriend’s I brought in Polished (you can see THIS post for more info!) and they provided a fresh blowout for everyone.
Next stop – dinner & drinks.
We headed to Frolik Kitchen + Cocktails, which is located on the 5th floor of Motif. It has one of Seattle’s most renowned outdoor rooftop bars and the perfect Northwest-Inspired menu.

The best dirty martini in the city
Since Frolik is in the hotel – we headed back to the room for a quick touch up + last minute photos before we put the phones/camera away for the night! Important rule – make sure to unplug at some point and just enjoy (I advise before the cocktails kick in and you start flooding your instagram feed) :)
At this point – we then went and danced our faces off. I highly recommend this. Even better if you can find a spot playing 90’s r&b. :)
The next morning we continued our mini holiday with room service – it’s the little things, my friends.

Fresh juice shots
Last rule – use every ounce of that beautiful free time.
Grab a coffee, walk the city, shop, and when in Seattle – make sure to grab a Pike Place Market bouquet before heading home…
And remember – you deserve this.
You owe it to yourself to take a break, reconnect and just fly a bit. You will return home with a renewed sense of gratitude, kindness and patience. #ThisIs30
Thanks to Motif Seattle, Frolik Kitchen + Cocktails & Julep for hosting us. They were incredibly gracious and superbly attentive. I hope you consider them for your next girls night out – which you should be planning right about…now.
