3 Things To Always Eat On Vacation
I am your girl on the go…if I’m currently not on a trip, I’m planning the next one. And in between I’m driving my girls to and from school, practice, etc. Convenience is everything in my world. And I’m willing to bet it’s your jam, too.
With that said, I’ve discovered 3 things to always have with me to eat (in my purse or small cooler bag), especially important on vacation. Thanks to Lauryn Evarts from The Skinny Confidential (who I am obsessed with) for highlighting the importance of one of these items specifically on her podcast (Episode #90).
Let’s get into it…
Protein.
Every cell in your body benefits from protein. And it keeps you feeling full. A few of my favorites when I’m on the go are pre-cooked and peeled hard-boiled eggs, almonds and FAGE 0% Greek Yogurt (13 grams of protein in one small container!). I recently picked up the FAGE Total 0% Split Cup in raspberry and add it to the girl’s lunches as well.
When you’re on vacation (at least in the states), stop in the local grocery store and pick up a few of items from this post and store in your mini fridge. Having just a few healthy things to eat on hand can make a world of difference when you’re surrounded by cocktails and room service. I’m not saying to steer clear of all that vacation goodness, but maybe enjoy a yogurt…paired with my next suggestion before dinner so you don’t completely lose control (I’m only saying from first-hand experience).
Fiber.
This was the little nugget of advice I learned from The Skinny Confidential. Always include protein and fiber at every meal. When traveling, your digestion can definitely get twisted. An easy way to stay comfortable and bloat-free is by adding fiber-rich foods like bran cereal, fiber crackers and my favorite…raspberries.
The third thing you should always eat on vacation, actually drink, in this case, is water.
Make sure to drink at least half of your body weight in ounces per day. So if you weigh 140 pounds, you should be drinking a minimum of 70oz per day.
The magical combo of protein, fiber and water are both daily and vacation staples to combat the hunger beast and prevent overindulging guilt (the worst!).
I’d love to know your healthy vacation secrets! Share in the comments below – and if you’re a blogger, make sure to add your link so we can follow you, as well!
