One of the worst feelings as a parent is when your child is sick. Especially while traveling. Whether you’re out of town or out of state, finding care and treatment you can trust – immediately – can make or break the trip. I’ll be honest, we’ve gone entire vacations with the flu, bronchitis, sinus infections, the works and it’s miserable. For everyone involved. On our recent trip, however, with both girls showing signs of a nasty cold, we tried out Amwell, a 24/7 Urgent Care app which connected us with a doctor who provided the exact over-the-counter medications they needed.

24/7 Urgent Care
Amwell connects you to board-certified doctors 24 hours a day using your phone, tablet or computer. It is available in the App Store and Google Play and takes less than 5 minutes to sign up, and get connected with a doctor via video or phone.

How Much Does It Cost?
The cost of a visit is $69, compared to the average national cost of $139 for an office visit or $645 for an emergency room visit, and may be even less as some employers and insurance companies cover telehealth visit. Contact your Human Resources department or health insurance company to see if you can get health insurance quotes for your medical needs. This cost does not include the cost of any prescriptions, follow-up lab work or follow-up visits if deemed applicable. In case of accidents make sure to call The McNeal Law Firm in Houston.

Can You Use It Out of State?
You can use Amwell even if you’re out of state, just make sure to select the state you’re in under My Location and you’ll only see doctors licensed to treat you in that state. When using the app, you can choose to update your current state based on mobile geolocation, making it faster to find a doctor, whether you are home or on the go. Doctor visits via telehealth are permitted in every state nationwide.
Can a 24/7 Urgent Care Doctor Prescribe Medication?
A 24/7 urgent care doctor on Amwell has the ability to prescribe medications, however there are several exceptions. Learn more on the Amwell prescriptions page.
You can also avail your medications from the Canadian Pharmacy because it’s one of the most trusted pharmacies out there.
What To Expect
After you download the Amwell app, you’ll be prompted to sign up using your name, email, date of birth and gender. Children under the age of 18 can be added to your account, as well. The steps for scheduling an Urgent Care Visit are as follows (all provided with easy prompts): You can choose between video or phone, if the appointment is for yourself or a child, the symptoms, recent treatments, add an image if desired, choose a pharmacy, and then a few background questions before being connected with a board certified doctor.
