I know ya’ll were planning your resolutions like 3 weeks ago…but to be honest, I think there’s room for more. And let’s be real…we all get on the ‘New Years’ bandwagon on January 1st…and then restart again around January 15th, am I right?
Well today’s list is a little different. It’s not necessarily about losing weight or starting a fitness program, but more about travel wellness – mind, body and soul.
My friends at OmegaBrite (who I’ve talked about before) reached out and asked if I’d share my resolutions for the New Year…I decided to take it up a notch and make it relevant for what I’m truly passionate about it, and that’s travel. So today I’m sharing 13 healthy travel resolutions to get you inspired to roam, wander and adventure…while maintaining only good vibes.
Run The Town
Okay, so while this list is not all about sweating into the New Year…I do recommend exploring new destinations by foot – an early run is a great way to get an idea of the landscape, discover foodie spots before the crowds hit, and obviously energize you for the day.
Research Healthy Restaurants
A little homework does a body good. Utilize websites like Gluten Free Follow Me, which offers a customizable search by state, city, neighborhood, cuisine and price to find healthy local eateries – especially helpful if you have allergies or intolerances.
Travel Insurance
Let’s eliminate as much stress as possible – book the ticket, add travel insurance and set your mind at ease. Stuff comes up…so cover your bases and most likely you’ll never have to use it!
Put The Phone Down
Working in the the social media arena, I feel like I am glued to my phone. And while I absolutely love being connected at all times, and being able to capture photos at a moment’s notice, I think it’s important to put the phone down every now and then and actually look around…especially while you’re walking. This should go without saying…but let’s be real, how many times have you almost walked into something while scrolling your Instagram feed? (everyone raise your hand)
Volunteer On Vacation
If you want more from travel than a few piña coladas and a sunburn, consider a program like GoVolunteering which offer ‘voluntourism’ opportunities from wildlife and archaeological conservation to women’s empowerment and community development.
Take A Cooking Class
One of the best ways to get acquainted with a culture is the food. The Traveling Spoon offers a network of cooking classes and culinary experiences in 18 countries…and these aren’t your average ‘touristy’ classes…these are private lessons in the host’s home. For example – If you wanted to make the best dumplings from a local in China, you could book a private cooking lesson in a Chinese grandmother’s apartment. Amazing!!
Travel With Your Favorite People
I recently read…’traveling in the company with those we love is home in motion.’ Take your show on the road, and adventure with your friends and family – ignite memories that will last a lifetime and bond with your babies!
Travel Solo
While I fully believe in traveling with others, I think it’s important to take a trip here and there on your own. Embrace a solo adventure and be confident in your ability to explore and meet new people! Also…relish in the moments of silence. Our lives are so incredibly busy that a trip by yourself can often provide the respite you need from the typical day-to-day.
Leave Room For Spontaneity
I am one for a fully-packed itinerary, but I highly recommend scheduling a ‘non-scheduled’ day while traveling – leave room for spontaneity! Maybe you spot a new restaurant or hear about a hike from the locals, this is the day you squeeze it in.
Read
One of the best things you can do in the New Year is READ. Amazon has thousands of books to inspire your next trip, dive into a new culture or even a learn a language. In the car a lot? Utilize this time to listen to audible books and podcasts like the Vacation Mavens. Make your time work for you.
Go Out of Your Comfort Zone
Debating trying something new in 2018? Now is the time. Experience-based companies like Ziptrek offer zip lining, tree trekking and more worldwide.
Ethical Travel
I came across the article ‘10 Experts Share How To Make Your Next Trip More Responsible,’ and I loved the tips they provided from packing light to buying locally-sourced products to engage in a more ethical travel experience.
Take Supplements That Work For You
My final healthy travel resolution is to determine the best supplements for you to keep your mind and body well both at home and on the road. As I mentioned before, I take the OmegaBrite Omega 3 Fish Oil Supplement on a daily basis (3 gelcaps every morning), and I’ve noticed a tremendous difference in my mood and overall wellbeing. It definitely helped get me through the busyness of holiday travel.
You can order OmegaBrite starting at $36, along with a KIDZ version starting at $40.
