Netflix is my guilty pleasure. And I’m going to bet you love it too…
There’s something about streaming that is the best soul food. You can decompress, unwind and ignore your inbox for an hour (or two).
And once the kiddos finally go to bed, I open a bottle of wine and head straight towards a Romantic Comedy – because that is my genre. There’s something about a little love and humor that puts my mind at ease, and just makes me happy. Feel good stuff makes you…well…feel good. And we could all use a little more good in our day, right?
Since you’re reading this, I’m assuming Romantic Comedies are your thing too…so here’s the Top 10 on Netflix right now:
Jane The Virgin
Jane Villanueva, the daughter of a teen mother, grew up determined not to repeat her mom’s mistakes. At 23, her life is on track; Jane is studying to be a teacher, and she is engaged to a handsome detective who supports her decision to remain a virgin until marriage, but a routine visit to the clinic turns her life upside down. Inseminated by a specimen meant for a patient in the next room, Jane is in a situation made only more insane when she learns that the sperm donor is her boss, Rafael. As her meticulously planned life gets more like the telenovelas she loves, she faces a lot of complicated decisions about the future. – Google
Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
Rescued after 15 years in a cult, Kimmy Schmidt decides to reclaim her life by venturing to New York, where she experiences everyday life with wide-eyed enthusiasm. On a whim, she rents a room from Titus, a gay wannabe Broadway actor, who makes ends meet as a street performer in Times Square. The unlikely pair find they’re well-suited to help each other out, with Titus reintroducing Kimmy to modern life, and her providing him with the inspiration that you should never give up. Together they’ll make it through whatever life throws at them. – Google
Young & Hungry
Feisty young food blogger Gabi is desperate for a job. When she finds out wealthy tech entrepreneur Josh needs a personal chef, she wants the position. But Gabi must prove herself to Josh’s aide, Elliot, who would rather have his boss hire a famous chef. Gabi gets help from best friend Sofia and Josh’s housekeeper, Yolanda, in order to turn the opportunity into employment … and maybe love. Actress Ashley Tisdale (“High School Musical”) is an executive producer of the comedy series. – Google
Master of None
Personal and professional life of a 30-year-old actor in New York who has trouble making decisions. – Google
Crazy Ex-Girlfriend
Successful and driven, Rebecca Bunch seemingly has it all — an upscale apartment in Manhattan and a partnership at a prestigious law firm — but she feels like something is missing. After a chance meeting with a former romantic interest, Rebecca impulsively decides to give up her life in New York and relocate to West Covina, Calif., a Los Angeles suburb she hopes will be the perfect home base as she embarks on a quest for love, adventure and true happiness. Star Rachel Bloom also serves as an executive producer. – Google
Kevin From Work
Falling in love with a co-worker and pursuing a relationship is often a slippery slope that has a high probability of not ending well. So, of course, the best time to announce your love to a colleague is when you’re about to begin a job overseas and know you’ll never see that person again. That’s the route Kevin takes, writing a letter to co-worker Audrey to declare his unrequited love for her after he accepts a position abroad. That opportunity falls through, though, and he is forced to go back to his old job. Can you say awkward? Kevin and Audrey must now continue their working relationship with his previously hidden feelings for her now out in the open. – Google
Fuller House
Widow D.J. Tanner-Fuller lives in San Francisco with sister Stephanie and single mom Kimmy Gibbler. – Google
Meet The Patels
Filmmaker Geeta V. Patel follows her brother, Indian-American actor Ravi V. Patel, as he embarks on a quest to find a wife and make his family happy. – Google
Hart of Dixie
New York doctor Zoe Hart (Rachel Bilson) has reached a crossroads in her life when she decides to accept an offer from a stranger to work with him at his practice in Alabama. When she arrives in town, she discovers that the man has died and left her his half of the practice in his will, something that doesn’t exactly make her new partner happy. Despite the shock of Southern life and some less-than-hospitable town folk, Zoe decides to give her new life a chance and discovers a new side of herself in the process. – Google
New Girl
After going through a rough breakup, awkward and upbeat Jess (Zooey Deschanel) moves in with three single guys. Intelligent and witty Nick is an underachiever who took the bartender off-ramp on his road to success. Schmidt obsesses over his social standing and looks at Jess as a personal project. Winston is a competitive former athlete who, after realizing he will never become a pro, moves into the loft. Together with Jess’ best friend, Cece, they bond to form an unlikely, and dysfunctional, family. – Google
These are definitely the 10 BEST Romantic Comedies on Netflix right now…and the reason? They all have a lovable, relatable leading actor/actress and a strong cast to back them up. I have watched every single episode/series listed above, and more than likely, will watch them again – thanks Netflix :)
